To Love the Skin You're in

When you look at your body in the mirror, what do you see? If there was a long pause to answer this question, it is probably safe to assume the answer is not "I am awesome". In fact, you're not the only one who may feel not so great emotions regarding their body. Often times, women find themselves constantly comparing body shapes and images with other women on television, social media or even in the mall.  Indeed, you have every right to feel and be completely honest with yourself, but what happens next? Do you stay in a funk? Or you do you change your circumstance? Change starts mentally first. There are different levels of self- perception.

It is a known fact that people with positive self-images are more susceptible in accomplishing an ideal body goal in comparison to those who see themselves in a negative light and would rather complain than change their situation. When your body image is positive, you are more appreciative and respectful to your body. People with healthy self-images may not always display great confidence in their body image, but they understand that they too are deserving of love and respect especially from themselves.

There is no other person in the world like YOU; therefore, embrace every part of being. How we think of ourselves is how we see ourselves. How we see ourselves impacts how we feel about ourselves and ultimately results in how we carry ourselves. Honest positive body language is the act of one's self-perception. A person with healthy body goals makes room for improvement, not perfection. When we truly love our bodies, we can live our lives unashamed and free.

Below are tips to improve and maintain positive self- images:

  1. Write a list of positive things you love about yourself and post them in your room as positive affirmations. This list comes in handy when you are hard on yourself.

  2. Shop for clothes that compliment your shape and make you feel comfortable and secure. This helps with positive body language.

  3. Treat yourself every now and then. Life is short. Wear the bikini... enjoy a scoop of ice cream... You deserve it!

  4. Don't compare yourself with others. Remember that no one is perfect and embrace the flaws that make you beautiful.

  5. Surround yourself with people who love and support you. After all, you are working hard at loving yourself daily and you don't need anyone trying to steal your peace.
